Case Study - Best Buy

Overview

Best Buy is Canada's fastest-growing specialty retailer and e-tailer of consumer electronics, personal computers, and entertainment software. In 2001, Best Buy bought Future Shop, and the first Best Buy Canada stores were opened in the fall of 2002, with eight locations in the Greater Toronto Area. Over the next several years, Best Buy Canada expanded west, opening more stores in Ontario and entering new markets in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Best Buy converted several Future Shop stores under the Best Buy brand and retired the remaining Future Shop stores in 2015 due to the proximity of existing Best Buy stores. Best Buy continues to expand in Canada with over 130 Best Buy stores and over 50 Best Buy Mobile stand-alone stores.

Project Scope and Goals

BKS provides ongoing cabling solutions within the different departments of Best Buy such as construction, IT, telecom and interactive with new store installations, renovations and service calls. Like many expanding companies, time, budgets and deadlines are a challenge for new construction of large-scale projects as any opening delays result in loss of sales. The other challenge is servicing existing locations; as they require limited hours access, short lead times and multiple locations.

Solution and Outcome

With the construction of new locations, conversions and renovations, BKS had the ability to work closely with other construction, electrical, fixture and AV contractors. BKS having their own engineering and project management teams, they have the ability to be ‘eyes and ears’ for the client. BKS can recognize any unforeseen problems or eventualities that may affect timing, budgets or delays in a store opening and implement a quick resolution. BKS expanded to Toronto, which can facilitate service calls at the various locations across Canada.

BKS now supplies Commscope Cat 6/Cat 6A copper and Fibre solutions for all Best Buy new store construction, renovations and upgrades.
